LOVELAND BASIN — It’s just one run, but no one was complaining. Wednesday at 9 a.m. a hundred or so eager skiers and boarders at Loveland Ski Area kicked off the 2009-10 ski season on a bluebird day for the area’s earliest opening day ever. Jeff Meyer, Jess Csincsak and Nate “Dogggg” — all from Breckenridge — made sure they were the first up the chairlift by arriving at 3 p.m. Tuesday and camping out. “Our excitement level is over the roof,” Meyer said. “We’re gonna crush it!” Csincsak, best known for his role in TV’s “The Bachelorette and MTV’s MADE,” said getting first chair was a goal of his. “It’s been a dream of mine for 10 years, and now it’s about to become reality,” he said. The crowd counted down from 10, and at the stroke of 9, the three Summit County snowboarders helped officially start the ski season. Arapahoe Basin will open Friday. The two ski areas vy annually for the right to be the first to open, with a tie last year and A-Basin claiming the honor the previous two years. But the Summit County ski area will have an edge over Loveland, since it will open with some features of its High Divide Terrain Park, in addition to one trail. Wednesday morning, though, was Loveland’s day as skiers and riders grabbed free doughnuts, got interviewed by Denver TV stations and just enjoyed the vibe. “I think it’s going to be a good season,” said self-proclaimed ski bum George Dennison of Idaho Springs. Sporting a bright yellow ski suit and a wide smile, the retiree said he’s been skiing at Loveland since 1957. “I haven’t missed many opening days,” he said.
